Essential Duties and Responsibilities
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Senior CAD Designer with a strong background in electromechanical design to join our engineering team. The ideal candidate will have 8+ years of experience in CAD design, with proven expertise in SolidWorks, and a deep understanding of mechanical and electrical integration in product development.
Position Dimensions: This position reports to Gates Technical Director for New Technology Innovation and is responsible for developing, testing and supporting software for Mechatronic devices.
Other:: Office hours are normal with overtime required. Travel to supplier facilities and plant and global facilities is required.
Key Responsibilities:
- Independently lead the design and development of electromechanical components and assemblies by applying extensive knowledge of principles and practices.
- Create and maintain detailed 3D models, drawings, and BOMs using SolidWorks using advanced techniques.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams on major projects, including mechanical, electrical, and manufacturing engineers to ensure design feasibility and manufacturability.
- Perform tolerance analysis and ensure compliance with industry standards and company specifications.
- Support prototype development and testing, including design revisions based on feedback.
- Manage design documentation and revision control in PLM systems.
- Mentor junior designers and provide technical guidance on best practices.
Requirements and Preferred Skills
Qualifications:
- Minimum 8+ years of CAD design experience in an electromechanical engineering environment.
- Advanced proficiency in SolidWorks (including assemblies, configurations, and simulation tools).
- Strong understanding of mechanical design principles, materials, and manufacturing processes.
- Familiarity with electrical components, wiring, and integration into mechanical systems.
- Experience with GD&T, DFM/DFA, and tolerance stack-up analysis.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design, or related field (or equivalent experience).
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with PDM/PLM systems (e.g., SolidWorks PDM, Windchill).
- Knowledge of automation, robotics, or mechatronics systems.
- Familiarity with ISO and ASME standards.
- Experience in rapid prototyping and 3D printing technologies.
- Ability to work with team members from around the globe/experience working with off-shore models
- Strong service attitude and a commitment to quality
