The Sr. Human Resources Clerk provides comprehensive support in employee relations, recruitment, onboarding, payroll, benefits, pension administration, labor relations, and compliance. This role partners with employees, managers, union representatives, and retirees to deliver HR solutions, ensure regulatory compliance, support business objectives, and foster a positive employee experience while maintaining the highest level of confidentiality and professionalism.
Key responsibilities
- Serve as the primary Human Resources contact for employees, managers, union representatives, retirees, and external stakeholders, providing professional guidance and support on HR policies, procedures, and employment matters.
- Partner with managers and supervisors to provide coaching and support in employee relations, performance management, policy interpretation, workforce planning, and conflict resolution.
- Manage full-cycle recruitment activities for hourly and salaried positions, including sourcing, screening, interviewing, selection, background checks, offer administration, onboarding, and orientation.
- Maintain employee records, personnel files, HRIS data, training records, and organizational documentation while ensuring compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
- Support labor relations activities, including collective bargaining preparation, contract administration, grievance tracking, and union-management communications.
- Generate and analyze HR metrics, workforce analytics, headcount reports, turnover data, and management reports utilizing HRIS, Oracle, Microsoft Office Suite, and reporting tools.
- Ensure compliance with employment legislation, collective bargaining agreements, company policies, ISO standards, audit requirements, and regulatory obligations.
- Administer employee benefits programs, including health, dental, life insurance, disability, pension, and retiree benefit plans while serving as liaison with benefit providers and vendors.
- Coordinate disability management programs, including Short-Term Disability (STD), Long-Term Disability (LTD), workers' compensation (WSIB), leave administration, accommodations, and return-to-work processes.
- Administer Defined Benefit and Defined Contribution pension plans, including enrollments, status changes, retirement processing, pension calculations, and regulatory reporting.
- Process HR-related financial transactions, including vendor invoices, benefit payments, pension remittances, government reporting, and compliance-related documentation.
- Manage company fleet administration, including vehicle assignments, maintenance coordination, insurance management, reporting, and compliance tracking.
- Coordinate office and facility administration activities, vendor relationships, workplace services, and operational support functions.
- Plan and coordinate employee engagement initiatives, training programs, recognition events, wellness activities, community outreach efforts, and employee communications.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives across Human Resources, benefits administration, compliance, HR systems, and administrative processes.
About You
- University degree or college diploma in Business Management, Human Resources, or a related field,
- 5 + years of progressive Human Resources Generalist experience.
- Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) designation is considered an asset.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively interact with employees at all levels of the organization, from hourly bargaining-unit employees to executive leadership, as well as external stakeholders.
- Strong negotiation, problem-solving, and conflict resolution skills, with the ability to identify issues, conduct research, evaluate alternatives, and implement effective solutions.
- Thorough knowledge of Canadian employment standards, payroll legislation, labour relations practices, and applicable regulatory requirements across multiple provinces.
Additional Information
