Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Fully responsible for Concept, Design, development & product validation of power transmission products for automotive, truck & bus, off highway applications.
  • Communicates with other Gates technical departments to drive the development towards production
  • Communicates with Gates Global technical departments to drive design and development activities.
  • Analyses current product designs for cost/quality/performance restrictions and production feasibility.
  • Works with technical team to resolve issues and implement product design changes to remove restrictions and improve robustness of the design.
  • Works closely with global product development groups and commercialization centers to introduce common technology in global products and drives the development of proper application guidelines as needed.
  • Works closely with product managers, customer focus group, application and test engineers and System Engineering to analyse customer needs.
  • Conducts problem-solving activities, identifies and communicates discovered or potential non-conformities and recommends corrective action at any stage of product/system development.
  • Ensures that customer requirements are translated into product specifications for all function
  • Support the quote service levels and sample submission service levels. Also working on translating Customers Enquiries to Drawings, Specifications to Gates Parts and build BOMs.
  • Plan, execute and manage timely development, testing and submission of prototype parts to customers, internal DVP&R completion.
  • Supports and guides advanced quality planning in a multi-functional activity
  • Ensures clean product launches and production sign-offs
  • Supports R&D of new products and processes. Complete benchmarking activities for competitor products and evaluate cost and performance of the products
  • Documents that control/revision levels are maintained.
  • Has regular contact internally with manufacturing staff, project management, PLM, Sales, production, logistics, prototype shop, test labs and quality assurance.
  • Must work regularly with suppliers to complete component feasibility sign off as per guidelines.
  • Closely monitors technical project execution during all product development phases according to the GPMS - APQP process to support clean product launch in cooperation with local engineering managers

Requirements and Preferred Skills

RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Must coordinate all activities with other team members and be aware at all times of project deadlines as scheduled in the GPMS project plan and organize individual work so that all technical objectives can be met.
  • Must coordinate with India manufacturing plant as appropriate
  • Fully responsible for the form, fit and function of the products and all included product designs released to operations, suppliers and customers.
  • Adheres to ISO TS 16949, ISO 14001, HSE policy, VDA 6, GBLP/s, GPS, Lean Manufacturing, 6 Sigma and any other industry standards in all activities.

 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

 

  • Requires a degree in engineering and a minimum of 8 years’ experience as a design engineer in the automotive field or, if not, 3 years experience in equivalent role
  • Preferable min. 2 year experience designing FEAD components and Experience in developing and launching products for Automotive domain
  • Competency of 3D modeling using CAD software & 2D drawing is a MUST. Creo experience is preferred.
  • Solid design fundamentals (Mechanical engineering basics, GD & T, drawing conventions, unit conversions, design calculations, criteria, materials and manufacturing process selection for various components)
  • Understanding of Bearings (read and understand application guide line, select bearing based on guideline and approved bearing gates list)

  • Must have excellent communication skills to be able to work effectively with all functional team members and clearly explain complex technical issues
  • Must have common sense and logic to be able to understand customer requirements and to effectively transfer them into design needs
  • Must be highly analytical and a good problem solver
  • Requires creativity to find new solutions or alternatives to design problems
  • Must have a good knowledge of spoken and written English.
