Description

We are seeking an Embedded Systems Application & Integration Engineer to support the integration of our drive control unit into electric bicycles.

This is an application-focused role, positioned between product development, customers, and system validation. You will apply and adapt existing hardware and firmware to real-world bicycle and mobility platforms, ensuring reliable operation across motors, batteries, HMIs, sensors, and vehicle networks.
Your work will be strongly centered on CAN-based e-bike architectures, system robustness, and field-ready integration.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Application & System Integration (Mobility-Focused, CAN-Centric)

  • Lead system integration of the drive control unit into e-bike platforms.
  • Define CAN architectures connecting motor, battery (BMS), HMI, sensors, and auxiliary modules.
  • Adapt communication flows to customer-specific CAN specifications and mobility use cases.
  • Support integration of complementary interfaces (UART, PWM, analog, pulse-based) typical in bicycle systems.
  • Identify integration risks related to packaging constraints, EMC exposure, and supplier variability.

Firmware Configuration & Adaptation (Application-Level)

  • Configure and maintain application-specific firmware variants for different bicycle and mobility platforms.
  • Adapt CAN message mapping, IDs, scaling, diagnostics, and timing to customer requirements.
  • Support firmware bring-up, parameter tuning, and feature enablement for specific bike applications.
  • Contribute application changes via Git-based repositories, following structured branching and release practices.
  • Feed application insights back to core firmware and product teams.

Electrical Interfaces & Harness Support

  • Support customers and partners in defining wiring and harness layouts suitable for compact bicycle and light-mobility systems.
  • Provide interface guidelines and best practices for connectors, pinouts, grounding, shielding, and routing, with the support of our specialized electronics team.
  • Act as the application focal point, coordinating with internal electronics experts for detailed electrical and EMC recommendations.
  • Review and validate customer and supplier harness designs for CAN robustness in exposed, vibration-prone, and EMI-challenging environments.
  • Identify integration risks related to harness implementation and recommend application-level mitigations, escalating complex electrical topics to the electronics team as needed.
  • Support harness-related topics during integration, testing, and field deployment without owning harness redesign.

Power Integration & System Robustness

  • Analyze power distribution from battery to control unit within bicycle architectures.
  • Validate voltage stability, startup behavior, load conditions, and transient events.
  • Identify power-related risks affecting communication reliability and rider experience.

Application Testing & Field Issue Resolution

  • Support integration testing on benches, prototypes, and complete bicycles.
  • Diagnose and resolve CAN communication issues involving motor, battery, or HMI interactions.
  • Act as a technical escalation point during customer integration phases, pilot builds, and field trials.

Documentation & Cross-Functional Interface

  • Produce application notes, e-bike CAN interface specifications, wiring guidelines, and release notes.
  • Maintain traceability between firmware versions, CAN definitions, and customer bike configurations.
  • Interface with customers, suppliers, and internal teams (electronics, validation, product).
  • Contribute to standardization of integration practices across bicycle platforms.

Requirements and Preferred Skills

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical, Electronics, Mechatronics, or Computer Engineering.
  • 4+ years of experience in embedded systems application engineering or system integration.
  • Experience integrating embedded systems in e-mobility, bicycles, or light electric vehicles.
  • Strong embedded C/C++ skills for configuration, adaptation, and debugging.
  • Hands-on experience with CAN bus integration in vehicle environments.
  • Solid understanding of DC power systems and embedded electrical interfaces.
  • Proficiency with oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and power measurement tools.
  • Ability to read and interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, and system documentation.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with e-bike subsystems (motor, battery/BMS, HMI, sensors).
  • Familiarity with GitHub-based firmware repositories (branching, pull requests, release tagging).
  • Exposure to RTOS-based systems, bootloaders, and firmware version control.
  • Knowledge of EMC/EMI challenges specific to bicycles and compact mobility systems.
  • Mandarin language skills are a plus.
  • Strong hands-on mindset, structured documentation habits, and customer-oriented problem-solving approach.

Why Join Us

You will help bring advanced motion technology into real-world bicycles and light mobility products, ensuring reliable performance from lab to trail, street, and city use.
This role is ideal for engineers who enjoy CAN-based system integration, e-bike architectures, and turning complex multi-supplier systems into reliable, rider-ready solutions — without being a core platform development role.
