Mechanical Engineer

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Main function of the Mechanical Engineer role is to specify, plan and implement the installation, maintenance and repair of mechanical equipment and to improve equipment performance.  A Mechanical Engineer must, at all times, use their expertise to ensure full compliance with regulatory, statutory and Corporate HSE requirements.

Other responsibilities will include:

• Develop and adhere to Engineering procedures to support compliance with ISO 9001, 14001, 45001 and 50001 standards.
• Control and Monitor PSSR and LOLER on site compliance.
• Will partake in the Duty Engineer Rota system (On demonstration of competence).
• Commission new equipment, including training of key staff.
• Co-ordinate repair and/or replacement of faulty mechanical equipment.
• Trouble shoot equipment failures to identify root cause of any issue and implement lasting corrective actions.
• Support site CI activities related to H&S, quality and efficiency.
• Enhance project engineering particularly focussing on design, cost evaluation, liaison with machine builders and suppliers, planning, project control and commissioning.
• Provide technical support in the area of ongoing cost management and corporate projects to reduce fixed and variable costs.
• Ensure adequate spares coverage at all times for key equipment.

• Assigns tasks to and coordinates work with entry-level engineers, technicians, or administrative staff.
• Impacts quality of own work and the work of others on the team; works within guidelines and policies

Requirements and Preferred Skills

• 2-4 years of experience.
• Must be qualified to HND /HNC level in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
• Supplier negotiations and budgetary control experience.
• Development and monitoring of specific goals and plans to prioritize, organize, and accomplish work.
• Use of relevant information and individual judgment to determine whether events or processes comply with laws, regulations or standards
• A logical approach to problem solving and an ability to make decisions under difficult circumstances, explaining rationale when required.
• Self-motivation and an ability to work with minimum supervision.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills, proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Project.
• Self-motivated, able to work with minimal supervision and willing to learn proactively
