Essential Duties and Responsibilities

POSITION SUMMARY:

We are searching for a Product Specialist who possesses the product management skills and aptitude to operate effectively in a matrix environment and have confidence in supporting aggressive growth plans. The person should have a consultative and collaborative style, proven track record / achievement. THE ROLE 

This role is responsible for executing product management and development strategies and actions plans to develop product positioning and messaging that differentiates Gates products in the market together with Regional functional leaders (i.e. Innovation, Operations, Finance, HR, IT and Supply Chain) to achieve overall organization's objectives. In addition this role would have to liaise with Multi-discipline team including support functions, to delight our Internal and External stakeholders. 

 

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES / ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties may be assigned beyond the core functions listed below.

The responsibilities of the role are to implement the required action plan, manage direct product line management, line extensions, effective pricing, and creative product promotions and marketing campaign activities to support efforts to achieve maximum sales and profits on automotive product lines. The role shall carry out tactical activities to develop specific automotive product offerings to meet annual sales budget. In addition, it is to support key tasks, including product training and product warranty claims aligned with Regional vision and aspirations.

 

The assigned territories include Power Transmission - Automotive businesses in ASEAN. This individual is expected to support the growth of ASEAN business 

 

The Product Specialist's specific responsibilities will fall into three primary areas: 

Accountability #1: Customer (Internal / External Stakeholders)

  • Manage assigned products to support the local country sales growth and target and work closely with Sales team and distributors
  •  Conduct product training to commercial team, customers and/or distributors
  • Coordinate product warranty claims to ensure smooth closure with the customers and internal departments

Accountability #2: Process / Performance

  • Conduct market research, monitor and analyze market trends and competitors to make sure products stay competitive 
  • Identify product gaps and new potential opportunities to increase market share and sales
  • Oversee product packaging/labelling requirements for regional markets
  • Maintain and update product database for product cataloging. 
  • Execute product fitment tests in conjunction with technical engineering team and workshops and follow up to report test result
  • Support product pricing, profitability from launch to product end-of-life and selling price based on market pricing / competitor pricing
  • Support product development by coordinating with customers and global resources, reviewing and deciding to make or buy, based on criteria such as price / MOQ (Minimum Order Quantity) / Shipping etc. 
  • Work with Global-Sourcing Team to identify new potential suppliers within the region & price negotiation.

Accountability #3: People

  • Ensure sales team, distributors and/or customers are equipped with the latest product information via training workshops

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • The incumbent reports Product Manager & operate in individual contributor capacity.

Requirements and Preferred Skills

  • Preferred to have 2 to 5 years of product line management skills or experience in automotive industry, or fresh graduate with strong automotive products knowledge
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering Discipline

REQUIRED SKILLS:    

  • Effective communication skills in both written and oral English
  • Analytical and Logical thinking. Requires sound mechanical engineering knowledge relative to assigned products, and ability to convert technical matters to language understandable to non-technical readers and listeners.
  • Competent in MS OFFICE (Word, Power Point, and especially Excel)
  • Collaborate well with people, effectively handles conflict and demonstrates flexibility in work style to accommodate changing priorities and tight deadlines.
  • Proactive, able to work independently and strong team player
