Essential Duties and Responsibilities

We are seeking a highly experienced and innovative Senior Electromechanical Engineer to lead the design and development of Brushless DC (BLDC) motors for advanced mechatronic systems. This role requires deep technical expertise in electromechanical systems, motor design, and cross-functional leadership to drive product innovation from concept through production. This position reports to Gates Technical Director for New Technology Innovation and is responsible for developing, testing and supporting software for Mechatronic devices.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design, simulation, and validation of BLDC motors for high-performance applications.
  • Define motor specifications, performance targets, and design constraints in collaboration with systems and controls engineers.
  • Oversee electromagnetic, thermal, and mechanical modeling using tools such as ANSYS Maxwell, Motor-CAD, and MATLAB/Simulink.
  • Guide the selection of materials, winding configurations, and manufacturing processes.
  • Collaborate with PCB designers and firmware engineers to ensure seamless integration of motor control electronics.
  • Manage prototype builds, testing, and iterative design improvements.
  • Mentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Interface with suppliers and manufacturing partners to ensure design for manufacturability and cost optimization.
  • Document design processes, test results, and technical reports for internal and external stakeholders.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • None.
  • Leads projects with notable risk and complexity; develops the strategy for project execution.
  • Provides technical leadership and consultation to management and peers.

Requirements and Preferred Skills

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in electromechanical design, with a strong focus on BLDC motor development.
  • Proven track record of leading complex motor design projects from concept to production.
  • Proficiency in electromagnetic simulation tools (e.g., ANSYS Maxwell, JMAG, Motor-CAD).
  • Strong understanding of motor control principles and integration with embedded systems.
  • Experience with thermal and mechanical analysis of rotating machinery.
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and project management skills.
  • Experience working in automotive, robotics, aerospace, or industrial automation sectors is a plus.
  • Travel to supplier facilities and plant and global facilities is required.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship

 

Preferred Skills:

  • Familiarity with ISO, IEC, or automotive standards (e.g., ISO 26262).
  • Experience with high-speed or high-efficiency motor applications.
  • Knowledge of advanced materials and manufacturing techniques for motor components.
  • Work collaboratively with the Electronic Hardware engineering team
  • Passionate, persuasive, articulate professional capable of quickly establishing interest and credibility in how to design, deploy and operate mechatronics. Strong written, verbal, and chalk board skills
  • Experience in enterprise applications, solutions, and data center infrastructures
  • Ability to work with team members from around the globe/experience working with off-shore models
  • Strong service attitude and a commitment to quality
