Essential Duties and Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The following responsibilities are essential for the successful performance of the Mobility Powersports Application Engineering role. Other tasks may be assigned as necessary.
- Directly support assigned OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) 2-wheel customers in Japan through:
- Analytical calculations
- Technical presentations for business development
- DFMEA and DVP&R reviews
- Prototype design and/or procurement
- Managing testing requirements and execution supporting DVP&R or other customer requests
- Primary customer contact for all technical communication
- Troubleshoot customer issues and provide expedient support as required
- Manage internal testing to support global product or system development in collaboration with global and regional teams.
- Observe and report field trends, issues, or needs to global teams as appropriate.
- Support overall business development goals and objectives in Japan and the broader APAC region.
Requirements and Preferred Skills
QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required:
- Bachelor of Engineering Degree (or equivalent) – Mechanical or Electrical engineering preferred.
- Minimum 2 to 5 years of experience:
- Knowledge of 2-wheel motorcycles or scooters is a plus.
- Knowledge of electric vehicle powertrains is advantageous.
- Knowledge of power transmission belts or related applications is beneficial.

- Strong knowledge across the full spectrum of typical engineering core competencies.

- Strong communication skills, including presentation and negotiation abilities with an emphasis on adapting to Japanese business culture.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Language Skills: Fluency in Japanese (written and spoken) is required. Proficiency in English is also desirable for communication with global teams.
- Travel: Domestic travel within Japan is expected up to 40% of the time to visit customers and Gates facilities. Occasional international travel (up to 10%) to other company facilities or customers may be required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Domestic and international travel as outlined above.
- The work environment will involve moderate noise levels and a mix of office and industrial settings, depending on project requirements.
