Position Summary
Is responsible for development, assembly, and validation of fixtures and machines. Responsible for quotation and acquisition of components for fixtures and machines. Quick decision making and strong communication skills will be beneficial to working within the department and interaction as required with product, process, quality engineering, and purchasing. Occasionally responsible for packing fixtures and shipping documentation as required. To operate and maintain all programs, systems, and objectives as defined by the facility quality policy and espousing our Gates Quality Commitment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties may be assigned beyond the core functions listed below.
Assembling and validating fixtures and machines used for the assembly, measurement, and testing, of tensioners, idlers, and electric water pumps. Problem solving for fixtures and machines and developing new processes. Provide continuous improvement for fixture/machine designs and process, and feed back to equipment designers, and other design departments (product design, quality engineering, process engineering). Using Bill of Material (from equipment design) acquire necessary quotations and submit purchase requisitions to have all parts available and on time for equipment builds. Maintenance of assembly area, and inventory.
- 25% - Assembling fixtures/machines (electrical and mechanical)
- 25% - Set up and validation of fixtures/machines and electronic sensors
- 25% - Acquiring quotations and submitting purchase requisitions
- 10% - Maintaining assembly area and inventory
- 5% - Machine shop operations (Lathe, Bridgeport, Drill Press, Surface Grinder, Band Saw)
- 10% - Designing fixture components and changes using SolidWorks
Qualifications

- Three years of post-secondary in related field of equivalent experience with three years of experience in machine/fixture building and function validation. Mechanical and electrical experience required.
- Experience in trouble shooting mechanical and electrical/electronic components and systems.
- Experience in the automotive industry would be essential. Experience in developing new equipment and processes. Strong in error proofing, problem solving, and continuous improvement skills.
- Machinist skills are essential; manual lathe, Bridgeport, Radial drill, drill press, surface grinder, band saws, and measuring equipment (calipers, micrometers, height gauge, etc.)
- Knowledge of electrical/electronic test equipment, leak testing equipment, measurement equipment, machining, and assembly automation equipment.
- Knowledge of Excel is essential. Experience with CAD (SolidWorks preferred).
Required Skills
- Experience in partnering with fixture/machine designers, process engineers.
- High level interpersonal skills; and must be able to work independently.
- Understanding of regulatory environments (OHSA, WHMIS, safeguarding of machinery CSA Z432, etc.)
- Change management and continuous improvement capability
- Experience with quotation and acquisition processes
- Good organizational skills; professional tool room and office communication skills.
- Attention to detail and accuracy are imperative.
- Possess knowledge of data processing, e-mail, photocopy and Microsoft office including Excel.
- Experience with Microsoft Suite and other ERP systems, such as Oracle, SolarSoft.
- Willingness to continuously learn and participate as a team player.
